Why do applicants need an appointment with the immigration office?

The Turkish immigration directorate requires applicants to attend in person at the provincial immigration office to complete a number of transactions, most notably a first-time residence permit application, some renewal cases, and residence-type transfer requests (such as moving from short-term residence to family or student residence). This appointment is the step in which the application is formally completed after the initial registration of the transaction, and its date and location are set according to the province where the applicant wishes to reside.

What happens during the appointment?
