Why does a foreign family need coordinated health insurance?

When a foreign family lives in Istanbul, it is not enough for just one family member to have health insurance. Under Turkish law, every person holding a residence permit — spouse, and each child registered under the residence application — independently needs a valid health insurance policy that meets the requirements of the immigration authorities, or the residence application or its renewal risks rejection.

In practice, this means the family is not dealing with a single policy, but with several policies that may be issued by different companies, with mismatched start and end dates, and with varying coverage levels. With multiple family members, tracking each renewal date, ensuring each policy remains valid without interruption, and coordinating them with the residence renewal dates themselves becomes a complex administrative task in which it is easy to make a mistake that costs the family delays in its official transactions.

This is where the need for central coordination arises: monitoring each policy individually, confirming that all of them are issued by officially licensed companies, and ensuring renewal dates do not conflict with the residence permits' timeline.
